On the 3rd and 4th of December 2022, the people of Tawau participated in the “Tawau Matsuri and Kuhara BizMatch” festival in Kubota Square, Tawau . The event was held to honour the 40th anniversary of the Look East Policy (LEP). It is hosted by Mitsusho Sdn. Bhd. and is supported by the Sabah Tourism Board and other Malaysian and Japanese companies.

Many people from various cultural backgrounds attended the event and experienced a fruitful exchange of business, culture, tourism, and music between Japan and Malaysia. Some of the activities were orchestra performances, classic Japanese games, cosplay, origami, karate and kendo, as well as a variety of Japanese food stalls.
